For newcomers, the gym may be an intimidating place and the only real way to get past this is to just stay as consistent as possible until you feel completely comfortable. I’ll make a post to give an assist in getting through this stage but this is specifically for people that feel confident in the gym but need some preparation so they’re ready to give it 110% throughout the whole session.

It’s important that once we get past those newbie gains we start to give our absolute all at the gym in order to keep seeing those results. Don’t overthink it, you will become comfortable with this over time and you’re going to feel amazing after putting in that work every day you’re there.
Pre Workout Checklist
- Wash up, throw on a dope outfit, and meditate a little to calm yourself.
- Eat your pre-workout snack and take any supplements you may use.
- Go over your routine for the day.
- Put on some distracting music to help clear your mind.
- Track back to your overall mission and purpose.
- Warm up and throw on the workout playlist.
- Kill it!
Starting Off At Home
I always like feeling fresh when starting my workout so I like to start with some self-care before my session. I recommend washing your face or taking a shower and throw on some motivating music but don’t turn up too much you because need your energy, treat it more like meditation. If you take any pre-workout supplements go ahead and take those along with a small bite to eat before heading out the door so you have enough energy to complete your workout. This is also your chance to go through what your routine will be for the gym that day.
On the Way
On your way, clear your mind with something whether that be more music or ambient noise, maybe even a podcast. Just try to take your focus away from things outside of the gym and lock in on you and those lifts! Understand where your motivation and purpose come from whether it be the struggles you’ve been through or what you’re working towards.
It’s important to keep your purpose close so that in those moments when you think about quitting you kill the weak part of your mind that’s telling you that you don’t feel like it. If you’re focused on your purpose when you’re about to grab the bar and hit a PR, you’ll never fail because there’s no room for doubt. Even if you don’t hit the lift, your goals just became personal and you’re gonna gear up to crush it the next time.
At the Gym
Once you put your stuff away in your locker or whatever you need to do, you have to warm up before your workout. Do not, I repeat do not skip this part, you’ll regret short-term, long-term, and everything in between. This time is a very good window to put on some music that’s gonna spark the mood to lift some heavy weight, one of my go-to’s is easily Meek Mill, go ahead and put on “Dreams and Nightmares” and it’s scientifically proven you’ll crush your PR (not really but still recommended).
Conclusion
Never forget to take some time for yourself before pushing through a strenuous workout. I know you go to the gym all the time and it feels like it should just be an automatic thing for you, taking this little bit of time before each session is what’s going to give you the mental capacity to go in there and crush it.
When you go to the gym on pilot mode you miss out on the parts where you have to put your everything into the workout which is where most of your gains are coming from, all because your mind was wandering somewhere else. Once you work this into your pre-workout ritual you’ll go into the gym with confidence and kill it every single time!
